Vignesh Swaminathan, PE, is a licensed civil engineer working on protected bike lanes and safer streets, known online as Mr. Barricade. He has 11 years of experience in active transportation and highway design. Before joining Kimley-Horn, he previously founded a transportation design firm, building a reputation as one of the leading engineers in active transportation design. He has designed and delivered more than 100 protected corners in California, working with local governments, agencies, and Caltrans, and was invited to take a leading role in writing NACTO's 'Don't Give Up at the Intersection' design guide. Beyond intersections, he has worked extensively on bicycle paths, bridges, corridors, interchanges, parking analysis, and transportation demand management programs. He was also Lead Engineer on tunnel projects for The Boring Company in the Las Vegas area, operating tunnel boring machines, surveying sites, and designing stations and tunnel alignments. He has spoken around the world on transportation topics, has been featured in articles and TV, and reaches 1.6M people as @mrbarricade, where he explains how streets get designed and how you can change yours.
